Thank you for visiting my website. It took a long time before I decided to get one; however, so much is happening for me now and people are asking for information that it just appeared to be the right moment. In this site, you will find as much as you need to know about me and my experiences. I am never really comfortable talking about my personal life although my experiences are often exciting stories as my former students know. The facts are there for all to see. I have been in education, television, and the entertainment business now for more than fifty years and have traveled to dozens of countries. I believe, and have always believed that ordinary citizens like me working internationally for the same global good can be successful even when we are stymied by politics and financial greed. The world’s peoples want to like Americans and others. To further all this, my life has been dedicated.

Born in Scotland, Jonathan Swift immigrated to the United States. He has been educated in Great Britain, France, and the United States. He has earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Wayne State University, a Ph.D. from Michigan State University, and a certificate in music from the Conservatoire National de Musique, Paris, France. He has sung widely internationally, in opera, concert, and television. Over the years, he has received many honors among which are a Fulbright Scholarship, the International Teacher of the Year (Applegate-Dorros) Award from the National Education Association; and for his television programs, the Hometown National Television Award, the Philo Farnsworth Television Award, the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors Award. He has been given two tributes from the Michigan State Legislature.

He is best known however, for his television series– “Global Connections,” “Time Out for Opera” this latter with the Michigan Opera Theatre and ”,“Dining Out with Jonathan Swift”. This last program, produced at Bloomfield Television, can be viewed on WTVS-TV (PBS-Detroit).

As Director for International Relations at Madonna University, Dr. Swift has traveled extensively. At this point, over a thirty year period , he has visited 75 countries and expects to visit even more. He is a truly global figure.

Dr. Swift is also the author of several dozen articles, revues, poetry, and other contributions to professional books and journals. He has been a consultant, evaluator, and avid worker in educational television and school curriculum. He is fluent in French, speaks some Spanish and Italian., enjoys television programs (“CSI,” “NCIS,” “Boston Legal” etc), swimming, skiing, and reading.
